Our process began almost 1 year ago when we heard about the Veteran’s pension from a fellow Vietnam Veteran. He suggested we get in touch with Silver Navigation here in Lakeland, Florida.After a short consultation with a Silver Navigation about eligibility, my wife and I decided to go ahead and apply. The fees would not have to be paid unless and until we received the actual pension. This did provide the safety net to go ahead and apply.

After getting our paperwork in order, we met again with Silver Navigation for the official submission to the VA. We were told it would be about 6-7 months for a VA decision to be made. We had 2 denials because of missing or mis-understood paperwork. Silver Navigation assisted on the appeal and resubmitted the application. The denial was actually based on an error from the VA, so they did not make me wait for the full appeal period. If I did not have the help from Silver Navigation, I would have had to accept the fact that I would not get this pension.
Finally after about 10 months, I received a direct deposit from the VA for retroactive payment. What a great surprise!
